Creating belonging, confidence and opportunities for the Latin American community in the United Kingdom.
Founded in 2020, Info Latinos has supported over 500 Latin Americans across the UK, working alongside more than 250 volunteer mentors who help individuals overcome language barriers, rebuild confidence and integrate into British society.
Info Latinos was created by Joanna Heywood and Yolaina Vargas to respond to an urgent need: providing culturally sensitive, bilingual support for newly arrived Latin Americans. What began as a response to personal experiences has grown into a community-led organisation that not only helps people navigate the challenges of migration, but also empowers them to thrive.
Through bilingual mentoring, community events and practical guidance, participants strengthen their English, access employment and education opportunities, and develop a genuine sense of belonging.
Behind every number is a real story, a mentee who becomes a mentor, someone who secures stable employment, or an individual who overcomes isolation to actively contribute to British society.

Why This Impact Matters
An estimated 450,000 Latin Americans live in the United Kingdom. Many are skilled, experienced and highly motivated to progress, yet face language barriers, emotional challenges and employment insecurity.
Info Latinos exists to unlock this potential, not only for individuals, but also for their communities and for the UK as a whole.

Fabby

After three years of submitting unsuccessful job applications in Scotland, Fabby received support with drafting cover letters, interview preparation and group coaching sessions.
She now works at the Department for Work and Pensions as a Learning and Delivery Officer and serves as a volunteer mentor, supporting a new participant who is interested in joining the UK Civil Service.

“I have been living in the United Kingdom for some time and, although I speak good English, I found it difficult to secure interviews within the UK Civil Service, which has always been where I wanted to work.
My mentor, Fabby, was incredible. She supported me throughout the application process for roles at the Home Office, which enabled me to secure an interview on my first attempt, something I had never achieved before.
Info Latinos is excellent at building strong connections and genuinely strives to help us succeed.”

Maida was one of the first participants to join Info Latinos and describes the mentoring programme as a turning point in her integration journey:
“The programme helped me practise my English, better understand the British accent and gain the confidence to participate in society.”
Following the mentoring programme, she took part in a production at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre that highlighted the realities faced by migrant working women. The performance formed part of an awareness campaign linked to Living Wage 2024 and was presented to local authorities, including the Mayor of the city.
